Unfinished business…

IMG_3726It’s been a LONG time! This entry has also been a long time in the making. Yes, today comes to you inspired by the half drunk cup of tea, the cold end of toast discarded in the corner, the interrupted yoga practice and the fact that I’ve not updated my blog since March. That just about sums up my crazy life right now! Full of unfinished business…

Wow. Where did the last 14 months go? Molly is now a walking, baby talking, jolly wee lady with a big personality just waiting to blossom. The sleepless nights are just (a little) more few and far between and life is slowly taking on a new ‘normal.’

I’ll admit it has taken a long time to get here and that the journey has been far from smooth. Despite exuding a yoga teacher’s required calm exterior, I would probably credit myself with the title of ‘world’s most stressed out mother!’ Before Molly came along, I had no idea that I would harbour such a desire to be in control of life, or have such a craving to have everything fit in perfect boxes. My thoughts on the present moment have been lost in the chaos of worrying about the future.

What I am finally coming round to now is the notion that motherhood has no formula. On one day the 5.30am baby alarm clock will re-raise its ugly head, while the next 6.30 will prove a welcome lie in. One day a nap will last two hours, while the next, 45 minutes will be the magic number. What remains constant is the joy of seeing a little person emerge…of hearing new words being formed, of watching new milestones being conquered.

Life on the yoga mat is also vastly different. Gone are the hours I used to spend springing into handstands and dropping into backbends. Gone are the indulgent savasanas that run until I decide it’s about time I got up. Replacing all this is a practice that usually doesn’t get finished, a practice that isn’t always that physical and a practice that is just grateful you showed up in the first place – muffin tops and all. In essence, this is what true yoga is all about.

So, here’s to going with the flow. And here’s to accepting that unfinished business isn’t always a bad thing, it will always be there for you right where you left it off!

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” – Lao-Tzu
